Ghada Amer: Reading Between the Threads
This exhibition featured large-scale installations as well as textile works and works on canvas. Although Ghada Amer is perhaps most widely recognized for her embroidered works on canvas, her installations and sculptural works are equally important. In her works on canvas, the paradox of vulgar content expressed with a delicate hand is at the core of her investigation and debunking of negative cultural stereotypes. Underneath a seemingly abstract surface lie the half-hidden pornographic images that have become her trademark. Throughout her work she sews wit and irony into an intricate weave, leaving the viewer to untangle the loose ends of meaning. Publication with texts by James Rondeau and Selene Wendt as well as an interview between Valerie Cassel and Ghada Amer. Exhibition traveled to Bildmuseet, Umeå and Kunstpalast, Dusseldorf
